Welcome to PEGChannels.org. I am thrilled that you’ve found our site and grateful that you’ve decided to read the very first post here on the blog. Thank you.
What Is This Site About?
As the name of the site implies, PEGChannels.org is solely focused on those involved with running, managing and creating content for PEG channels. If you’re not familiar with PEG, it is an acronym for Public, Educational, and Governmental, which are the three common methods of television access within a municipality.
Our goal is to become the “go to” resource for those involved with PEGs and to provide them with a community in which to share their thoughts and ideas with others involved in the same endeavor.
Who Are You?
As of right now, the site is primarily run by me – Michael Ashby. Over time I hope that we’ll see more people come forward to volunteer and lend a hand where needed, but for now I’m the chief bit twiddler and Chief Executive Janitor (CEJ) for the site.
What To Expect
We’re kicking off the site with a blog and forums, but we have a ton of ideas in the works and on the horizon. However, as with any community, a lot of our plans will depend on the response from the members of the community and their needs.
For now, we’ll be posting regularly to the blog and opening up the forums for discussion on a wide-array of topics important to those in PEG.
In the future, we plan to publish Articles, which will be go deeper into a topic than a simple blog post would and begin launching a series of resources that…
Join The Conversation
Central to the reason behind this site is you. If you’re involved with a PEG Channel, we hope that you’ll take the time to join our community in the forums. PEGChannels.org is about you and what you do. Lending your voice to the conversation is critical to making this site not only successful, but vital and useful to PEG channels everywhere.

Mike:
I am glad to see that someone has taken the time and provided the effort to produce a site such as this. I have been in PEG for over 25 years with the Town of Franklin, MA and most of that time have also been a part of the local CATV Advisory committee. We’ve seen a lot of things come and go, notably analog recording and linear editing. The one thing that continues to varying degree is the involvement of residents who want to share a story or help with understanding of local Government.
Our Town is still in discussions with one of our local providers about renewal of the Cable llicense and are also forming a Non-Profit Access Corporation to help manage PEG within the Town. One of the most positive things we feel about this is that once we have control of our own destiny, so to speak, we plan a new much larger studio for the Town to benefit all PEG users. In the past, we believe that the local program has been stifled by lack of space from which to operate – the local provider has made available a studio which is roughly 900 sq ft. and that includes an office, storage space and a control room. – we plan one several times larger. Other plans in the works are replacement of the current (Coax based) I-Net with a more reliable all fiber system, and a video server to allow more easily scheduled playback. We bagan live streraming of many of our Government meetings early this year using EarthChannel, and that has helped to extend our efforts to make public information available to our residents.
Best of luck with this new venture and I hope that we see notes from other groups who are in the same boat

Congratulations on the launch of this new PEG clearinghouse site and for being the first site to discover the LOGO Contest announcement on our brand new new web site – MarbleheadTV.org.
As of July 18, 2009 the new non-profit Marblehead Community Access and Media, Inc. (MCAM) assumed ownership of the local MHTV studio and staff from Comcast and will be soon trying to fill three channels with quality locally produced programming. We view this site as a valuable resource to us in our quest.
Godspeed.
Ron K. Olson – Clerk/Secretary
